July Meeting

Annual membership dues are DUE!
It’s still $15 per person or $30 per couple. Bring a check or cash to the next meeting, or mail your check to our Treasurer Dale at:
Dale Knipschield
808 S. Bench St.
Galena IL 61036

Our guest speaker at the Dubuque Brewing & Malting building was local historian Bob Reding. In addition to reviewing the building’s history and describing some of the challenges faced in trying to restore it, he showed us several Dubuque Brewing & Malting items from his collection.

Since I couldn’t do justice on a summary, I’ll refer you to the Encyclopedia of Dubuque:

Business meeting

President Diane Schulz called the meeting to order at 6:55pm.

Guests and introductions

– Sandy Lyons, Kim Herrig and Megan Starr were introduced. Phyllis Lee introduced Maria who was visiting Dubuque from Guatamala. Jean Heiderscheit (one of the House Tour homeowners) joined us as well.

Treasurer’s Report

Treasurer Dale Knipscheild reported a balance of $10178. After the City of Dubuque and our Four Mounds grant, plus membership dues, we’ll have about $5000. Dale estimated that we had 980 paying guests on the Old House Tour. He will be putting together a report of expenses for last year soon.

Membership

President Diane Schulz noted that we did a mailing to 1000 owners of older homes…of which one attended our membership picnic. She said that Gwen noted that it usually takes 5 mailings to get a response, but the mailings are rather pricy for the club.

House Tour

House Tour Chair Kay Kluseman reported that the Tour Committee will be meeting with the Grant Committee to discuss timing of the grant application process for next year.

New Business

The slate of officers (as shown in last month’s newsletter) was presented for consideration. Phyllis Lee moved to elect the officers as suggested. Jackie Arnold seconded. The membership elected the slate.

In addition, several members expressed interest in joining different committees. Paula Neuhaus and Jean Heiderscheit joined the Grants Committee. Karen Vandermillen joined the Preservation Committee.
