July 2008 NEWSLETTER/June Minutes

June 12, 2008 Meeting
Mindframe Theater

Prior to our meeting the club enjoyed a catered dinner while watching Dubuque Historical Films (a dinner and a movie!). Thanks to the Wainwright’s for their hospitality at the beautifully renovated theater.

Treasury Status

June beginning balance $17,038; Deposit $575, Deductions of $4284 (which included $100 Checks for tour home decorations and $800 tour home stipends as recommended by Tour Committee); June ending balance $13,330. Some tour money and the grants need to be paid out yet.

Committee Reports

ByLaws

Dale has essentially completed all the applications for Non Profit Status. The next step is to assure that all officer and committee positions are filled.

House Tour

Bethany is no longer able to head up the tour committee. The club owes her a great debt of gratitude for her leadership and hard work, going above and beyond the call. Bruce Oestreich and Bill Stoffel volunteered to serve on the committee. We’ll need additional volunteers and a chair to complete this committee.

Web Site

John requested articles and photos be submitted, also volunteers to help maintain the site. Paul Opperman volunteered to help John out.

Grants

Following much discussion on funding options including holding money back for future projects it was voted to donate $4000 to the Library Restoration Fund and $1000 to the Ham House. Some reasons for the Library donation were they need to reach a certain level before other funding kicks in and they’re contemplating selling books to reach that level.

New Business

Officer Elections

Dale agreed to continue to serve as treasurer, Paula Connors agreed to become the secretary. Thanks Dale and Paula. We’re still in need of a vice president and president. Current officers will help out in making transitions.

Future Meetings

It was suggested that the recently restored Potosi Brewery and Behr’s Funeral Home would make good future meeting sites.

July 10th Meeting

To be held at 6:30 at Gerta Preston Hartman’s Museum, across from her home at 7569 Olde Massey Road. (One block west of the Mines south entrance, John has posted directions on our site) Gerda is a local historian, archaeologist, and conservationist. Her museum is in the great tradition of family museums, like the Hermann Museum that was on Central from 1900 to 1960.

With the tour, the web site, the grants, & interesting meeting locations great things are happening – Let’s keep them rolling!
