May Meeting
Bethany Golembeski and Bob Johnson hosted our May business meeting – volunteering their place at the last minute. Thanks!
There was no program since there was plenty of House Tour business to discuss.
Business Meeting
President Diane Schulz called the meeting to order at 7:20pm.
Introductions
Trish McDonald and Bob McClellan were introduced. Treasurer Dale Knipshield reported that Susan Kerns recently joined the club. We hope to meet her at the picnic.
Treasurer’s Report
Treasurer Dale Knipshield reported a balance of $18,322 as of May 21. After paying expected Tour expenses (about $6000), awarding our grant to Four Mounds ($3500) and the check to the City of Dubuque clears ($1800), he expects a balance of approximately $7000. He expects about $900 income from membership dues this year. In short, we may be able to do another grant.
Correspondence
President Diane Schulz read an email from Chris Olsen of Four Mounds thanking the club for its grant award. Diane also noted an upcoming Chamber dinner.
Membership
There are still plans to send postcards inviting owners of older Dubuque homes to our membership picnic in June. Terry Kosel will design the postcard. Gwen Kosel will send out an email for help stamping.
Grants
Grant chair Cinda Welu has asked Four Mounds whether it is possible to include the Old House Enthusiasts’ logo on the dedication plaque. She hasn’t heard anything from the city on the bench we purchased for farmer’s market.
House Tour Committee
House Tour co-chair Gwen Kosel reported that this year’s tour was one of our most successful ever. She deposited $12000 into our account (which is included in Dale’s numbers above). Kay Kluseman and Marie Fitzgerald have volunteered to co-chair next year’s tour. (Secretary’s note: I took copious notes on suggestions for future tours. I will send these to Gwen, Kay, and Marie. If you would like a copy, shoot me an email.)
Preservation
President Diane Schulz discussed a TH letter to the editor from Jeff Stiles about the fate of Dubuque Brewing and Malting building. She also sent around a copy of the letter sent to the Zoning Board in regards to 51 & 53 Kaufman. Dick Vorwald reported that no one was able to attend the meeting, but that they did agree that any new parking lots would follow the “Neighborhood Design” standard (ie. have shrubs to separate it from surrounding homes).
New business
It is time to hold annual elections again. President Diane Schulz asked for volunteers to be on the Nominating Committee. Gwen Kosel accepted and began recruiting next year’s officers and committee chairs. We will have a slate to vote on at our July meeting. If you are interested in any of the positions, please contact Gwen at getmoving@mchsi.com.
Gwen also noted that the RE/Max concession stand raised $300 for ARC.
