DOHE-3/13/2008 Meeting Minutes

The Old House Enthusiasts Meeting on March 13, 2008 was held at the Dubuque Public Library. Thanks to the Robinsons, Schrobilgens, & Robinsons for providing the treats. Reminder the Club year runs from July through June for membership dues.

By Laws – Dale started filling out the 501c3 Application Form

Treasury Status – Beginning March 08 Balance $5,073. Lynda & Jeanelle raised over $2000 with tour ads and donations and after $62 Club expenses leaves $7,186 as month ending balance for March 08.

Grant - Will wait until after tour for Grant Applications, form is now on Web Site. Some potential candidates are the Ham House and Library. We also spoke of doing our own house history book.

Preservation - Discussed keeping an eye on proposed tower in Madison Park.

Web – If you haven’t yet, check out our web site at dbqohe.org! Among other things John placed useful tour planning information on the site including home descriptions , times, and maps. He’s looking for folks to submit completed articles for the site. Bethany has a nice tribute article in memory of Hugh on the site.

Home Tour / Donations - We have all of the tour coordinators; now we need volunteers to fill in time slots. This year’s tour is dedicated to the memory of our friend Hugh. A Big Thanks to Jeanelle and Lynda for raising over $2000 in brochure ads and donations!

Program: Linda Mathewson spoke on researching old homes. Some of the resources she mentioned were: City Hall Building Permits; City lot #’s; Sandbourne Fire Insurance Maps; Church Histories; City Directories; Loras College Local History Center; Dubuque Library, old newspapers etc.; and the House Title. April 10th Meeting

Regular Meeting starts at 7:00; Board Meeting for Officers, Committees etc. to start at 6:30. Location Warehouse/Office Bldg. on corner of 11th Jackson and Washington, front entrance across street from Kalmes Breaktime Bar. Treat Providers – Cindy Kraus & Joanne Edwards.

Programs - Club member Bruce Oestreich to speak about and show examples of the many uses for salvaged lumber and Building owners Stuart and Mary Mabusth to talk about building history and plans to turn it into a Music Center for all ages.
