DOHE-11/08/2007 Meeting Minutes

The November 8th meeting of the Old House Enthusiasts was held at Bruce and Mary Lou Heitz's home, 2500 Broadway St. A very impressive Queen Anne it is, built in 1895, 3000 sq. ft. of Victorian splendor.

Our guest speaker was Greg Eggers of Dubuque Fireplace & Patio. Greg talked on free-standing gas stoves and inserts for gas fireplaces. It's a warm and relaxing thing to have on a cold winter's night. And your cat or dog will love to curl up in front of it like our dog does. (That little fink gets better treatment than I do!)

The Heitz's provided the club with beverages and a nice assortment of snacks. Wine is provided by our club and brought to meetings by Phyllis Lee. Remember many hands make the load lighter.

The next meeting will be the Christmas Party at the home of Julie and David Lott 265 Alpine on December 13th, 7pm. It will be potluck. People whose last name is A-M, please bring something other than dessert, and people N-Z, please bring dessert.

Our club is a serious civic-minded club but, we don’t want you to get to 90 and say you didn't have any fun!

Now some business----------

Our non-profit status has slowed, but we shall persevere. Our cry from the wilderness shall be heard ---Yadda Yadda Yadda---

Grants

1) An idea to donate 2 benches for Farmer's Market behind City Hall on Iowa Street in the name of The Old House Enthusiast's Club was put forth. This could possibly be included on the upcoming Tour Brochure.

2) We still have the Ham House Costume donation request outstanding from last year.

Web-site

A bigger undertaking and more time-consuming task than we thought. So we are in the process of getting insight and possible assistance from John Martin.

May 17-18, 2008 21st House Tour

Bethany said she now has three homes. The brochure this year will have a different layout 11"-17" & will fold differently to be conducive for advertising. Perhaps we can also bring in the 175th Anniversary of the City of Dubuque.

Lynda Derks and Janelle Westerfield will approach businesses about sponsoring the house tour. This is where a non-profit status would help.

New Business

Dale Knipsheild is looking for input on a memorial statement to put together for Hugh Arnold.
