DOHE-10/11/2007 Meeting Minutes

The Old House Enthusiasts meeting of October 11, 2007 was held at the John Martin Joanne Georgulis residence, 732 Fenelon Place in Dubuque. We would like to thank John and Joanne for their hospitality and presentation of their library and historical time line of their house history.

The OHE meeting of November 8th,meeting will be at the home of Bruce & Mary Lou Heitz, 2500 Broadway, 7pm. Program will be heating with corn/pellet/gas stoves.
Treat people will be Tom & Cinda Welu, Jim & Jo Edwards.

Our December 13th Christmas potluck will be at the home of David and Julie Lott, 265 Alpine.

Announcement

As voted on at our last OHE meeting Dale signed $193 yearly Chamber dues check at last night's officers meeting. I encourage members to participate in Chamber's efforts to make Dubuque an attractive place to live and visit.

The St. Luke's tour at 13th & Main, is set for Saturday, Nov. 3rd at 2pm. It's an opportunity to learn about a variety of restoration processes like graining, marbling, gold leafing, & mold making. If you know of anyone else that might be interested please pass on.

Meeting Minutes

The meeting commenced at 7:30 pm. Sign-up sheets passed for hosts and treats.

Treasurer's Report

Itemized expense sheet passed around; report received and filed.

Old/New Business

Chamber Membership renewal debated. Vote taken, approved. Dale will pay membership dues.

By-Laws Committee

Dale will contact Cory Thein.

Preservation Committee

Newspaper article suggested house may be condemned. Club would like to see house saved. No action taken at this time.
Vance DeLire new committee chairperson.

Grant Committee

Ham House grant still pending.

Web Committee

John Martin will assist with web site.

Social Committee

Phyllis Lee will continue as committee chairperson, will get table service items for meetings.

Tour Committee

Members request committee report on finances spent.
Next meeting: will pass around sign-up sheet to work at houses.

Presentation

Betty Baule of the Carnegie-Stout public library gave the history of the library and services available.

Former Mayor donated land; Men's Association donated building and books. Opened Oct. 20, 1902 Purchased additional land from Masonic Temple in 1930s

Library possesses obituary index since 1860s, index of historic newspapers, index of auctioned antique items with value.

Meeting ended at approximately 9 pm.

Board Meeting

Board Members met Monday, October 29 to pay membership fee to Chamber, discuss finances.
